I think I finally did it. I finally ditched WordPress and moved everything over to Blogger. Some might call that crazy and at one time I would have agreed but in truth, my WordPress blog has given me so much grief over the last 6 months, I needed a change.
It started about 6 months ago when I turned on the Jetpack monitoring plugin. It was at that point that I noticed my sites were crashing several times a day. The errors varied and I was never able to find the cause or come up with a solution. I attempted everything right down to deleting everything and rebuilding. Nothing worked.
I then had the brilliant idea of moving everything to Tumblr. Easier said than done. There are a thousand different ways to import into WordPress but hardly anything to go the other direction. Finally I was able to make it work and I had my entire blog up and running on Tumblr.
Then the “undesirables” started following my Tumblr blog, liking posts that had family topics, etc. It didnt take long before I knew that Tumblr was not the place for me either.
I have always been a fan of all things Google. I knew about Blogger but never gave it much thought. Well after some looking around I decided to give it a go. I wanted something that would just work out of the box. I would rather focus my time and energy on projects around the house and not on trying to update and maintain a behind the scenes blog.
Copying over the posts was easy. Updating the pictures was a little bit more daunting but still doable in a day. I did remove a lot of posts that were appropriate at the time of writing but not so much anymore. A few I deleted but later regretted so I may put those back when I get time. I do have full backups of my old WordPress site and may even throw it on my home server.
So there you have it. I am hoping now that the site is up and stable and the weather is turning around, I may be able to get more posts up on some of the projects I am working on.
